Release Description:
Kate Voss & The Hot Sauce's debut album "Top Ten" features 10 of the band's favorite tunes to play while on the road. All of these tunes are repackaged versions of popular American songs from the 1950's and 1960's including Brenda Lee's "I'm Sorry" and Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking". The core trio of this group consists of Jason Goessl on guitar, Mike Underwood on drums/bongos, and Kate Voss on vocals/bass/melodica. There are 6 tracks featuring exciting horn parts with Kurt Shipe on trumpet and Eric Koppa on tenor saxophone and the feel of each tune varies in genre from swing to rockabilly to pop ballads with an obvious appreciation for a retro style.

Track 1: You Never Can Tell
This rhumba version of a Chuck Berry classic has a muted trumpet feature adding an extra saucy flair. The tune was revived in the 90s as a dance number in the Quinten Tarantino film “Pulp Fiction” and this version by The Hot Sauce retains the original je ne sais quoi and charm while breathing some new life into the piece with bass, guitar, drums, trumpet and sassy vocals..

Track 2: Stupid Cupid
There were 3 versions of this tune that The Hot Sauce drew inspiration from: Connie Francis, Patsy Cline, and Wanda Jackson. This track features the core trio of vocals/bass, guitar, and drums with an added excitement of the tenor sax and trumpet hits. The sax and guitar solos both ignite excitement and expand upon the 1950's rockabilly vibe of this track.

Track 3: Let's Go Sunning
This tune has been gaining a lot of popularity lately as it's a song featured in the game and TV show"Fallout". The Hot Sauce version features a trumpet duet playfully dancing around Voss' melody followed by a trumpet solo and trumpet harmonies during the guitar solo. This lilting medium swing song is the perfect tune to lounge outside and soak up the sun with a smile!

Track 4: I Got A Boyfriend
An updated version of the Ray Charles classic "I Got A Woman", Voss took liberties in changing the lyrics around a bit to suit her style. This track features Eric Koppa on tenor sax, Kurt Shipe on trumpet, Jason Goessl on guitar, Mike Underwood on drums, and Kate Voss on vocals and bass. Voss delivers a lot of sass in these vocals complete with a giggle at the end of the tune making this a very fun and upbeat song to dance to.

Track 5: I'm Sorry
Brenda Lee would be glad to hear her hit song from 1960 being revived by Kate Voss & The Hot Sauce. The ensemble sticks close to the vintage pedigree and essence of the original with a few updates including vocal harmonies and effects. The guitar solo features a sound reminiscent of Les Paul and the reverberated sounds of the 1960's.

Track 6: These Boots Are Made For Walkin
This track mashes up sounds of Henry Mancini’s “Peter Gunn Theme” with Lee Hazelwood’s iconic tune in a surf style. Keeping Nancy Sinatra’s sultry and sassy charm, the vocals are at the forefront before the guitar solo plays the full Mancini theme at the solo. Ending the tune with a hard rock edge and nod to Metallica’s Enter Sandman. This track features the core trio on drums, bass/vocals, and guitar.

Track 7: Route 66
A classic blues done up with some rockabilly flair, this song features high energy vocals and trumpet/saxophone harmonies. We are treated to a rockin 'guitar solo and the sax and drum solos are reminiscent of 1950s rock-n-roll. Very danceable and a great twist on a classic tune.

Track 8: It's A Good Day
This track is an up tempo swing and stays true to the message of the tune making it impossible to have a bad day if you listen to it. Featuring the core trio of The Hot Sauce with Kate Voss on vocals/bass, Jason Goessl on guitar, and Mike Underwood on drums, the guitar feature is lightning speed and the retro feel of this just makes you want to dance. Reminiscent of Julie London and days long gone, this is definitely a feel good track.

Track 9: You Don't Know Me
This tune is as classic as they come and The Hot Sauce sticks close to the vintage flavor as a 12/8 feel pop ballad. Featuring sax and trumpet swells and hits throughout and an achingly sad vocal performance, this song is relatable with a nostalgic twist that Patsy Cline would approve of. The reverb of the guitar solo harkens back to a 1950’s prom ala Back To The Future.

Track 10: Spooky
Kate Voss & The Hot Sauce took inspiration from the 2 iconic versions of this track (Classics IV and Dusty Springfield) and added a funk element with sultry vocals from Voss and an electrifying finger tapping guitar feature from Jason Goessl. With a nod to Van Halen and Al Di Miola, the shredding guitar solos definitely take this borderline disco version of Spooky to the next level.

About Kate Voss:
Hailing from the Emerald City, Kate Voss got her start in the club scene in Seattle playing with a variety of groups on piano. When her jazz studies were nearing an end and her musical interests could not be pinned down to a single genre, her teacher assigned her the title of "dilettante". Luckily for us all, that only inspired Kate to further explore other avenues for making music and ultimately brought her to form Kate Voss & The Hot Sauce which encompasses all the genres she loves. A true variety band, this act pulls from her varied background of jazz, blues, pop, country, western-swing, oldies, americana and rockabilly. As a full-time musician, Voss has cultivated a stage presence that charms and delights folks and a voice that "Nails the authenticity of the era" (JazzTimes) with tunes from Brenda Lee to Nancy Sinatra and Patsy Cline to Ray Charles. Kate has been awarded "Vocalist of the Year" and "Ensemble of the Year" from Earshot Magazine and after her move to Wisconsin in 2021, was nominated for several WAMI awards including Female Vocalist of the year, Instrumentalist of the year, Pop Artist of the Year, and Free Reed Player of the Year. As leader of this band, Kate sings lead vocals, plays the Ukulele Bass, and occasionally plays melodica while staying true to her one rule in this band: Kate says "We only play songs I love." Kate has been touring the country with her duo act Sundae + Mr. Goessl for the past decade performing thousands of shows in 40+ states. Her new book, "Melodica Method", was published in 2023 through Hal Leonard. Voss also runs an independent record label (Sun Goose Records) with her husband, Jason Goessl, and a boutique & bar in downtown Oshkosh called Can Can. Jason and Kate are expecting their first child this August and hope that the baby doesn’t dismay their rescue chihuahua (Jackie Osassis) too much.
